How it started
I have read fiction my whole life. During the pandemic I subscribed to a few book boxes, and something about being handed a novel I had not chosen myself stuck with me. I wanted to build one of my own.
My degree is in international relations and I spent years working in NGOs, but literature kept pulling. In 2019 I spent a year on a postgraduate course in literary studies, just because.
The idea came back in 2025. I spent the year building it, and the first box left Dublin in September.
Why I did it
During the pandemic I was the one receiving the boxes. Every month someone I had never met put a novel in my hands and I read it because they had chosen it, not because I had.
Some of those books I would never have picked up on my own. That is the part I wanted to build: not a shop where you choose, but someone choosing for you, and getting it right often enough that you trust them with the next one.
How I choose
Each month I scout new releases, read about the authors and work through reviews until three or four books are worth a closer look. I read a sample of each and pick the one that grabs hardest. Then I buy it and read it properly.
If by the halfway point it is not a book I would want to send you, it does not go. Some months the first choice has not made it.
The book that reaches you is one I finished. That is the only rule I have.
Every box is packed by hand in Dublin and posted from here. Nothing crosses a border to reach you.

Why should I subscribe instead of ordering the books myself?
Finding a good book requires time and patience. Every day, hundreds of books are published, and it is getting harder for readers to find their next favourite read. anbook offers a solution for that. We carefully select each month's book and save you time in finding your next favourite read!
What if I don't read one book per month?
Don't worry! Everyone has their own pace. After signing up for your anbook subscription, you can choose to skip months to take a break! Just sign in to your account and skip as many months as you wish.
Can I cancel or pause my subscription?
Yes, you can cancel or pause anytime. We offer you the option to opt out whenever you want to take a break from your reading and come back when you feel motivated again. We've got you covered!
When will I receive my first book?
Boxes are sent out on the 15th of each month.
What kind of books do you send?
Mostly contemporary literary fiction, usually new releases. Now and then we break our own rule for a memoir or a piece of non-fiction we cannot stop talking about, but fiction is what we do. What we never send is fantasy, romantasy or YA. There are better boxes than ours for those.
